Kekesalan Stoner semakin menjadi ketika kepala mekanik kepercayaan Rossi, Burgess, juga ikut bicara masalah performanya. Burgess menyatakan bahwa Stoner hanya mampu bertahan 80 detik di depan.
Dalam sebuah wawancara eksklusif dengan MCN Stoner menjawab kritikan itu, bahwa dia tidak cukup kuat mendorong Desmosedici bukanlah sesuatu yang baru. Menurut Stoner, di suatu tahapan Ducati adalah motor terbaik di grid dan ketika dia memiliki ban yang bagus dan sebagainya.

Selama musim 2011, Rossi dan Burgess bekerja keras mengembangkan Desmosedici GP11. Bahkan mereka menggunakan tiga motor baru yang radikal selama musim itu. Termasuk bereksperimen dengan sasis karbon dan aluminium.
Menurut Stoner, perbedaan jelas ada pada masalah dana. Stoner menjelaskan, dia memiliki arah pengembangan yang jelas tapi tak punya banyak dana, sementara Rossi memiliki banyak dana tapi tak memiliki arah pengembangan yang jelas. “Jelas mereka sepuluh kali lebih bingung dari pada kami dulu untuk mentukan arah pengembangan,†kata Stoner.
“Mereka ingin ini dan itu dan mereka mendapatkan apa yang mereka minta tapi tidak ada yang berhasil, mereka tidak ada perbaikan apa-apa. Mereka masih tidak lebih baik dibanding saat mereka di awal musim,†pungkas Stoner.
