Tapi dalam beberapa pekan terakhir, spekulasi tentang kembalinya Rossi ke Yamaha semakin menguat terutama setelah Ben Spies membuat keputusan mengejutkan untuk meninggalkan Yamaha.

Menanggapi hal ini, Rossi mengatakan bahwa saat ini dia masih dalam negosiasi lanjutan atas perpanjangan kontrak dengan Ducati, tapi dia juga mengakui bahwa dia punya alternatif lain.

“Situasi ini cukup jelas. Saya masih belum memutuskan karena itu agak terlalu dini,” kata Rossi.

“Saya bicara banyak dengan Ducati tentang tahun depan dan saya masih menunggu beberapa rincian dan beberapa kontrak. Saya juga punya beberapa pilihan lain,” aku Rossi.

Setelah seri Laguna Seca akhir pekan ini, MotoGP akan istirahat selama tiga minggu sebelum melanjutkan seri Indianapolis dan Brno. Rossi yakin masa depannya akan diputuskan pada pertengahan Agustus mendatang.

“Saya rasa situasi akan lebih jelas pada pekan depan dan saat istirahat musim panas saya akan memutuskan untuk tahun depan,” katanya.
