Menjelajah dengan sepeda motor besar BMW R1150GS bernopol B 5010 JP, Jeffrey memerlukan waktu hampir sepuluh hari untuk menembus medan jalan sulit sejauh lebih dari 7.000 Km dari Novosibirk hingga Vladivostok.
Tahapan perjalanan pria yang akrab di sapa Kang JJ ini dimulai pada 5 Agustus 2012 dan tiba pada 27 Agustus 2012 di Vanino, sebuah kota pelabuhan di ujung Timur Rusia. Jeffrey mengaku menerima banyak rintangan selama perjalanan. Kelelahan dan tekanan suhu adalah tantangan terbesar. Medan jalan off-road sejauh hampir 3.000 Km harus ditaklukkan di tengah tekanan suhu dingin yang tak jarang menembus minus 3 derajat selsius. Padahal cuaca Siberia saat ini sedang menjalani musim panas.
“Sebuah kebanggaan bagi saya, dan tentunya bangsa Indonesia, ketika teman-teman bikers di Vanino menyatakan saya sebagai orang pertama dari Indonesia yang mampu menembus Siberia,” kata Jeffrey yang dijemput kelompok bikers dari Wild Riders Novosibirks Bikers Club dan Black Unicorns di kota pelabuhan Vanino.
Kepada Jeffrey, para pecinta sepeda motor di kota tersebut juga menyampaikan rasa salutnya terhadap stamina fisik, keterampilan bersepeda motor, dan keberanian orang Indonesia. “Mereka tahu saya dari negara beriklim tropis dan panas, namun harus mengendarai sepeda motor di tengah bekunya suhu Siberia. Jadi sebuah kejutan bagi mereka karena Indonesia tidak mengenal salju dan dingin,” ungkap pria kelahiran Bandung, Jawa Barat, 63 tahun silam itu.
Jeffrey sendiri mengakui bahwa Trans Siberia menyimpan tantangan yang luar biasa liar. Hambatan medan jalan, terpaan suhu beku, hingga ancaman keamanan menghantui bagi siapapun yang melintasi kawasan itu. Tak jarang dia harus melalui jalan lurus seperti tak berujung. Namun kerap pula dirinya harus ekstra waspada ketika menghapi jalur berliku di bibir jurang.
Bikers setempat mengatakan, hanya segelintir penjelajah dunia tangguh yang mampu menaklukan Siberia. Bahkan tak semua bikers di dekat kawasan Siberia yang berani meladeni daerah yang menjadi hunian macan Siberia yang tak kenal ampun itu.
Setidaknya, berita tentang kematian pengelana dengan sepeda motor dari Jepang, Ohnita Kaiti, tiga bulan silam membuktikan betapa nyawa begitu murah di Siberia. Ohnita tewas setelah menerima 30 tikaman dari sekelompok penjahat yang hendak merampok dirinya. Tubuh Ohnita ditemukan membeku di dalam tenda tanpa sepeda motor dan barang-barang bawaannya.
Buasnya kawasan Siberia juga diakui penjelajah asal Inggris, Christ Bright. Ketika bertemu Kang JJ di Ulaan Bator, Mongolia, Christ mengatakan, saat ini masih lebih banyak pendaki yang berhasil menaklukkan Gunung Everest daripada penjelajah yang sanggup melintasi Siberia. Apalagi Jeffrey baru saja dirundung retak tulang lutut kaki kiri akibat kecelakaan di Kazakhstan akhir Juli lalu.
“Perjalanan Ride For Peace mengokohkan eksistensi Indonesia dalam dunia penjelajahan di dunia internasional,†demikian ungkap Duta Besar RI di Rusia, Djauhari Oratmangun kepada Jeffrey. “Keberhasilan ini tentunya membanggakan kita semua,†lanjutnya.
