Stoner Akan Dinobatkan Sebagai Legenda MotoGP

GILAMOTOR.com – Setahun sudah Casey Stoner meninggalkan balapan MotoGP. Setelah di usianya ke-27 tahun, dia memutuskan untuk pensiun dari balapan paling bergengsi di dunia itu.

Kiprahnya di balapan MotoGP menuai banyak pujian. Diberitakan MCN, kemampuannya menaklukkan tunggangannya serta prestasinya di MotoGP, membuat bos Dorna Sport, Carmelo Ezpeleta, ingin menganugerahkan sebuah penghargaan besar, yaitu sebagai legenda MotoGP untuk pembalap asal Australia itu.

Stoner akan jadi pembalap ke-20 yang akan diberi gelar sebagai MotoGP Legend. Dijadwalkan, penghargaan itu akan diberikan di helatan MotoGP Phillip Island, Australia, akhir pekan ini (20/10). Stoner akan jadi orang Australia ke-3 yang dapat penghargaan sebagai MotoGP Legend setelah Mick Doohan dan Wayne Gardner.

Sepanjang karirnya di MotoGP, Stoner punya dua gelar juara dunia di dua tim pabrikan berbeda. Bersama Ducati tahun 2007 dan Honda tahun 2011. Di tahun 2012, Stoner memutuskan untuk pensiun dari MotoGP bersamaan dengan berakhirnya musim itu.

Selama tujuh musim di MotoGP, Stoner tercatat menjalani 115 balapan dengan 38 kemenangan, 69 naik podium, 39 kali meraih pole position.

“Saya menaruh hormat sangat besar padanya dan dia telah menjadi salah satu pembalap terbaik di MotoGP. Skillnya luarbiasa dan dia melakukan sesuatu yang istimewa dengan menjadi juara dunia dua kali di dua pabrikan berbeda, Ducati dan Honda,” ucap Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sport.
