Namun dari hasil studi itu juga menyebutkan bahwa penggunaan helm dan pengaplikasian antilock brakes atau sistem pengereman yang tak mengunci penuh, mampu menjadi penyelamat pengendara dari resiko kematian.
Seperti dilansir New York Times, Anne McCartt selaku wakil presiden senior untuk penelitian di Insurance Institute, “Kami tidak mengatakan bahwa mereka seharusnya tidak mendapatkan pelatihan, tapi kami membutuhkan ekspektasi yang realistis tentang apa yang dapat dilakukan dengan pelatihan,” jelasnya.
Temuan ini merupakan bagian dari sejumlah studi oleh institute yang baru saja dilakukan pada sepeda motor. Sejumlah kelompok telah melihat pada rem yang mengaplikasikan antilock brakes, peraturan penggunaan helm dan program pelatihan berkendara adalah apa peran mereka dalam menjaga keamanan pengendara dan mencegah kematian.
Data kecelakaan menyebutkan, delapan dari sepuluh kecelakaan mengalami luka parah atau bahkan meninggal. Hal ini jelas mengindikasikan bahwa pengendara motor memang sangat rentan mengalami kecelakaan karena mereka bergerak tanpa pelindung seperti yang ada pada mobil, semisal sabuk pengaman atau kantung udara.
Dari studi yang dilakukan, menjelaskan bahwa motor yang telah mengaplikasikan sistem rem antilock, sekitar 37 persen mampu mengurangi resiko terjadinya kecelakaan fatal. Dan penggunaan helm mampu mengurangi resiko kematian karena kecelakaan hingga 37 persen.
“Namun biar bagaimanapun, pelatihan bagi pengendara motor baru juga perlu dilakukan untuk lebih mengenalkan dan memahami karater motor dan bagaimana cara mengoprasikan perangkat yang ada,” jelas Anne McCartt.
Dan yang terpenting dari semua itu adalah cara dan karakter berkendara biker itu sendiri. Tentunya jika ngebut dan berkendara dalam keadaan mabuk jelas semua itu tidak ada artinya.
