Rossi dan Burgess telah membawa keberuntungan Yamaha kembali pada tahun 2004 ketika Rossi memilih untuk keluar dari Honda. Sejak saat itu, Yamaha telah mendominasi kejuaraan MotoGP bersama Rossi dengan kemenangan di tahun 2004, 2005, 2008 dan 2009.
“Jika saya boleh egois, saya akan jauh lebih nyaman dengan dia di Yamaha dari tempat lain. Ada banyak orang yang ingin melihat dia menyelesaikan tugasnya di Yamaha,” ungkap Burgess kepada MCN.
Menurut Burgess, dari sudut pandang pemasaran Ia akan dikenang sebagai pembalap Yamaha. Jika ia pergi ke tempat lain itu akan menjadi bagian karirnya yang sangat singkat dan itu mungkin tidak bisa berhasil.

“Dalam hubungan normal banteng muda harus mengambil alih dari banteng tua, dan Jorge telah datang. Namun spekulasi yang beredar bahwa Rossi dan Jorge tak akan bersama pada musin 2011 mendatang karena Jorge adalah subyek dari kepentingan besar Repsol Honda.”
Sosok yang merupakan tokoh dibalik suksesnya perjalanan Rossi di Yamaha ini memang mengharapkan agar Rossi mengakhiri karirnya bersama Yamaha. Sebelum bersama Rossi, Burgess pernah bekerja sama dengan pembalap-pembalap legendaries lainnya. Sebut saja Wayne Gardner dan Randy Mamola. Terakhir, dia membantu Mick Doohan meraih 54 kemenangan dan lima gelar 500 cc bersama Honda.
