Lahir dari keluarga pebalap, Galang Hendra seperti mewarisi skill dan keberanian sang ayah, Dicky Hestu, untuk melumat setiap trek balap dan mengalahkan lawan-lawannya. Tak peduli dengan lawan-lawan yang notabene memiliki usia dan pengalaman lebih banyak dibanding dirinya, fokusnya hanya satu, berprestasi dan meraih podium.

“Yah, biasa ajah balapan lawan orang gede (pebalap senior), yang penting saya fokus dan balapan dengan sebaik-baiknya,” tukas siswa kelas 2 SMP 2 Bantul, Yogyakarta ini.

Kendati usianya masih terbilang sangat muda, Galang yang bergabung dalam tim balap Yamaha Yonk Jaya ini sering naik podium di tiap lomba balap yang dia ikuti. Semakin banyak mengikuti ajang balap, diakuinya akan semakin memupuk mental dan kemampuan balapnya sekaligus langkah untuk menuju kancah balap internasional.

Untuk mewujudkan mimpinya, anak berusia 12 tahun ini juga sering berlatih di sirkuit Mandala Krida, Yogyakarta.

Menjadi pebalap merupakan karir yang ingin ditempuh Galang. Tapi membalap tanpa dibekali ilmu pengetahuan yang cukup, bisa jadi akan sia-sia terlebih cita-citanya adalah menjadi pebalap internasional. Karena itu, sepadat apa pun jadwal balapnya, menuntut ilmu juga hal harus diprioritaskan.

“Saya juga tetap sekolah dan belajar. Untungnya sekolah memberi keringanan kalau ada jadwal balapan di luar kota. Saya ingin tetap sekolah dan membalap supaya bisa menjadi pebalap yang handal dan berprestasi,” paparnya.

“Saya juga berharap bisa mendapat dukungan terus dari Yamaha dan bisa mengikuti kejuaran-kejuaran balap motor di tanah air,” tegasnya.
