Finishing cat merupakan pekerjaan rutin Ivan saat pertama kali bengkelnya berdiri pada Agustus 2002 silam dengan nama Ivan’s Custom. Dengan modal ilmu seni grafisnya yang sudah dimiliki sejak duduk dibangku sekolah, pria kelahiran September 1975 ini mulai berani membuka usaha sendiri.
“Pertama kali garap Vespa temen yang minta di air brush Balada Nabi Nuh sekitar tahun 99. Karena dia taunya gw bisa grafis, akhirnya dia percayain tuh kerjaan sama gw. Berbekal itulah pekerjaan ngurusin cat motor akhirnya terus berlanjut,” papar lelaki bernama lengkap Ivan Suarso ini.
Memasuki tahun kedua, Ivan Custom mulai berani melangkah lebih jauh dengan memperluas cakupan kerjanya. Pada 2004 Ivan mulai masuk dalam dunia modifikasi motor, kendati saat itu ilmu modifikasinya terbilang masih sangat minim. Namun berkat tekad dan tak kenal kata tak bisa, lelaki kelahiran Kota Gudeg ini terus belajar untuk memperdalam ilmu modifikasinya.
“Awal masuk dunia modifikasi gw ngerjain fairing buat Tigi dari bahan fiber. Karena dulunya masih belajar, gw cuma bikin fairing aja belum berani ke modifikasi ekstream. Dan seiring berjalannya waktu, sekarang apa aja gw jabanin.”
Bicara masalah bahan yang digunakan, Ivan memang lebih memilih menggunakan fiber ketimbang plat, alasannya karena tak semua orang yang memodifikasi motornya mau merombak mesinnya. “Karena kalo pake plat, penambahan bobot lebih berat ketimbang pake fiber, jadi untuk mempertahankan akselerasi dan tenaga motor yang dimodif pake plat, kudu ada perubahan mesin dan kebanyakan mereka gak mau,” jelas Ivan.
“Rencana untuk menggunakan plat sih ada. Tapi sekarang gw masih mempertimbangkan kelebihan dan kekurangan serta baik dan buruknya kalo pake plat,” tambahnya.
Bengkel yang berlokasi di Jl. Punto Dewo 58, Kutuwates 07/08 Sinduadi, Sleman, Jogyakarta dengan lima awak bengkel ini tak hanya mengerjakan pesanan modifikasi dari perorangan saja, tapi banyak perusahaan juga datang ke bengkel ini untuk urusan modifikasi motor.
“Banyak juga sih perusahaan yang datang minta dimodifikasi motornya sesuai kebutuhan perusahaan. Mulai dari motor patroli pemadam kebakaran sampai air brush untuk branding produk di motor,” papar lelaki yang pernah mengenyam kuliah advertising ini.
Bicara masalah prestasi, memang bengkel ini terbilang minim piala. Pasalnya sang juragan enggan ikut dalam ajang kontes modifikasi.
“Kontes modifikasi, jarang mas. Masalahnya biayanya lumayan mahal kalo pake biaya bengkel. Mending untuk memenuhi kebutuhan bengkel aja dulu.”
“Dulu sih pernah ikut di Jakarta, minder juga sih karena kitakan bengkel baru, masih anak bawang, Udah gitu kita head to head sama rumah modifikasi 909 Hot Matic yang udah lebih punya nama, kita makin ciut aja. Tapi Alhamdulillah menang,” pungkasnya sambil tertawa.
