Kendati Rossi mengakui bisa tampil maksimal dalam sesi tes pra-musim MotoGP 2011 di Sepang awal tahun 2011 mendatang, namun tetap saja hal itu membuat Fillipo Preziosi Direktur Sport Ducati deg-degan. Pasalnya, disaat pembalap lain menghabiskan masa liburannya dengan bersantai dan mengembalikan stamina dan fisik pada kondisi maksimal, Rossi justeru bekerja untuk pemulihan bekas operasi bahunya.
Preziosi mengaku khawatir dalam program tes pra-musim MotoGP mendatang, Valentino Rossi akan terhambat oleh pemulihan bekas operasi itu.
Legenda MotoGP yang baru saja bergabung dengan Ducati dan akan memulai balap untuk Ducati pada musim balap 2011 mendatang, memang telah melakukan tes pertamanya bersama Ducati usai seri pamungkas MotoGP 2010 di Valencia. Namun hasil itu dinilai belum maksimal karena Rossi masih terhambat oleh cedera bahu akibat kecelakaan saat latihan motokros pada awal musim 2010 lalu.
Dalam sebuah wawancara dengan Motosprint yang dikutip Autosport, Preziosi menegaskan bahwa kebugaran Rossi adalah hal utama. Preziosi takut jika mantan juara dunia ini masih berada dalam kondisi fiksik yang kurang maksimal saat uji pra-musim di Malaysia pada Februari nanti.
“Saat ini, masalah teknis bukan lagi isu utama bagi Ducati,” ujar Preziosi.
“Saya tidak bisa memastikan kapan dia akan kembali dalam kondisi fisik yang prima untuk berada di lintasan. Dari sisi medis, Valentine Rossi sudah dalam kondisi yang sepenuhnya pilih saat datang ke Sepang. Tapi secara fisik ia mempunyai kekurangan.  Hal itu karena musim dingin nya tak digunakan untuk istirahat tapi untuk bekerja memulihkan bekas cideranya,” lanjut Preziosi dalam laman autosport.
“Valentino Rossi tak punya waktu untuk istirahat, sementara untuk pembalap di tataran seperti dirinya sangat butuh waktu untuk istirahat sejenak. Untungnya, dia memiliki mental yang sangat kuat. Jadi dia akan datang untuk balap dalam kondisi fisik dan mental yang kuat.”
Dikatakan Preziosi, di Sepang nanti Rossi diharapkan jangan terlalu banyak membuang energy karena suhu sangat panas dan ekstrim.
