Desainnya sendiri merupakan penggabungan ide dan opini para pengembang Kawasaki Z800. Bahkan sebelum model ini jadi, Z800 sempat beberapa ratus kali mengalami revisi desain. Kawasaki membuat sekitar 200-300 sketsa Z800 sebelum model ini benar-benar selesai.
