MotoGP Le Mans 2013, Podium Diisi Muka Baru Orang Lama

Pertengahan tahun 2012 lalu saat MotoGP menuju seri Silverstone, Cal dinyatakan tak boleh mengikuti balapan karena cedera kaki. Dia membohongi petugas medis sirkuit kalau dia tidak mengalami masalah dengan kakinya dan itu baik-baik saja. Padahal seharusnya dia menjalani operasi tulang kaki yang retak. Tapi meski balapan dalam kondisi cedera, dia berhasil finish di posisi enam.

Di Le Mans (19/5), dia kembali balapan dalam kondisi fisik tidak 100% setelah mengalami kecelakaan keras saat FP4 berlangsung. Bahkan dia sempat terancam tak bisa mengikuti balapan karena dikhawatirkan ada luka dalam yang diderita karena dia sempat mengalami mimisan dan muntah darah. Tapi kenyataannya dia kembali mengikuti balapan.

Boleh dibilang, Cal Crutchlow dan Andrea Dovizioso adalah bintangnya di balapan Le Mans. Sempat bingung sendiri bisa menempati start di barisan depan bersama Marc Marquez dan Lorenzo, Dovi pun berhasil start bagus dan s empat memimpin jalannya balapan basah karena sirkuit yang saat balapan Moto3 dinyatakan kering, tiba-tiba hujan saat balapan Moto2 dan berlanjut hingga ke pertengahan balapan MotoGP.

Dovi sempat tarung dengan Dani Pedrosa untuk memperebutkan posisi terdepan. Saat hujan masih mengguyur Le Mans, Dani dan Dovi sama-sama ngotot. Beberapa kali mereka bergantian menempati posisi pertama. Namun hujan yang mulai reda dan beberapa bagian lintasan mulai kering, Honda semakin kuat, Dani pun mengambil posisi terdepan dan meninggalkan Dovi. Sirkuit yang mulai mengering membuat performa Ducati melorot.

Tontonan menarik lainnya adalah saat Cal Crutchlow berhasil merangsek ke barisan depan. Setelah melewati beberapa pembalap dari barisan tengah termasuk pembalap pabrikan Yamaha Valentino Rossi, Cal pun mulai mengancam posisi Dovizioso yang akhirnya dia berhasil melewatinya. Meski tak bisa mendekat ke Dani Pedrosa dia bisa meninggalkan Dovi. Tapi ancaman sempat datang dari rekan satu tim Dani, Marc Marquez. Pembalap mudah Honda itu sempat tercecer ke posisi sembilan saat hujan masih mengguyur Le Mans. Marquez pontang-panting mengendalikan RC213V nya dan beberapa kali melebar saat menikung. Tapi saat beberapa racing line mulai kering, dia pun kembali ke gaya balapnya.

Setelah melewati Dovi dan merebut posisi ketiga, Marquez sempat mendekati Cal Crutchlow yang ada di posisi kedua. Bahkan jarak mereka hanya sekitar dua detik. Tapi mengingat balapan yang menyisakan kurang dari dua lap itu, Marquez pun bermain aman. Dia mulai mengendurkan ancamannya terhadap Cal dan jarak mereka pun menjauh. Meski demikian, Marc berhasil finish di posisi ketiga dan podium ketiga dalam balapan seperti itu, sangat luar biasa.

Cal Crutchlow menjadi satu-satunya obat bagi tim Yamaha. Di tengah isu posisinya terancam digusur Pol Espargaro dari kursi pembalap Yamaha Tech 3, dia jadi satu-satunya pembalap Yamaha yang tampil kompetitif dan berdiri di podium bersama duo Honda, Dani Pedrosa dan Marc Marquez.

Meski pembalap satelit, Cal tampil jauh lebih baik daripada dua pembalap pabrikan Yamaha, Valentino Rossi dan Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo yang start dari posisi dua, melorot ke posisi tujuh. Dan Rossi harus puas finish di posisi dua belas karena terjatuh. Rossi sempat membuat penggemarnya bertepuk tangan. Start dari posisi delapan, dia berhasil bertarung ke posisi tiga. Sayang, usahanya untuk memacu M1 lebih keras untuk merebut podium harus kandas oleh grip ban yang mulai berkurang. Rossi terjatuh.
